Auckland Museum: Gallipoli in Minecraft

Step into the world of Minecraft® and experience the Gallipoli campaign in a unique and immersive way. This exhibition, featuring objects from the Auckland War Memorial Museum’s collections, brings to life the story of the Allied forces’ invasion of the Gallipoli peninsula during World War I.

In April 1915, the Allies launched an invasion of the Gallipoli peninsula with the goal of capturing Constantinople, the Ottoman Empire’s capital. However, the campaign turned into a brutal eight-month battle, with both sides suffering heavy casualties. The Allies ultimately withdrew, and the campaign is remembered every year on April 25th as ANZAC Day in Australia and New Zealand.

Now, using Minecraft®’s block-breaking and block-placing gameplay mechanics, visitors can explore and interact with a virtual recreation of the Gallipoli campaign. This exhibition offers a unique way to engage with history and gain a deeper understanding of the significance of this important moment in World War I.
