The Boeing CH–47D Chinook “My Old Lady“ is a twin–rotor heavy–lift helicopter. It is a militarized version of the Boeing Vertol Model 107M civil helicopter. The Chinook was designed and first flown in 1962. It has a wide body and a large cargo hold and is capable of carrying up to 55 troops or 25,000 pounds (11,000 kg) of cargo. It is powered by two turboshaft engines and has a top speed of 170 knots (196 mph, 315 km/h). The Chinook is used by the United States military, as well as 27 other nations. It has seen action in a variety of conflicts, including the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, and the War in Afghanistan.
